What do you do today to have your symbol

You probably add pins, draw the box outline, enter pin names, center Ref-Des/Part-Name, move the symbol origin and hope that all is good without any pin name entry error.

So you can have a wizard to help you in this task but you must have enter the pin names and maybe make error. However in some cases, the wizard generally not manages the length of pin names and you can have overlapped texts. You must resize the body width and moves all pins. In fact the wizard don't really help you.

Another point, you are not an experimented librarian but a beginner. Before create your first symbol, you must discover yourself the symbol editor and learn how all commands works

How that can be different

With LIBedit7 « Component Plaza » the only thing you need to have symbols is simply to select and copy/paste the pin names contained in the datasheet of the manufacturer in Acrobar format (pdf).

How With LIBedit7 « Component Plaza » works

Open the datasheet:

Start the PDF Symbol Wizard (DIP) in the LIBedit7 « Component Plaza ».

Select the left pin names and copy them using the popup menu or hit CTRL + C keys:

Paste the left pin names (CTRL + V keys) in the left list of the PDF Symbol Wizard (DIP) dialog box. Pin numbers and pin names are copied:

Select now the right pin names and copy them. Paste the right pin names in the right list. They are copied.

Click the [OK] button.

The symbol is created. Pins, Pin Numbers and Pin Names are added. Symbol box is drawn. The box width is calculated to avoid pin name overlapping. Ref-Des and Part-Types texts are centered.

Don't forget that you have now with LIBedit7 « Component Plaza »:

No pin names to enter (and no error)
No pin to add
No box outline to draw
No box resizing and pin moves in case of pin name texts overlapping

 

And just do:

Select and copy/paste left pin names
Select and copy/paste right pin names

For all librarian beginners LIBedit7 « Component Plaza » demands to use the basic Windows commands CTRL + C and CTRL + V. It's very easy to learn an to use.

Select the PCB footprint to assign to the symbol. You can seach by name, pin count and package type.
